Climate Deniers at Odds With the Pope

“The earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth. In many parts of the planet, the elderly lament that once beautiful landscapes are now covered with rubbish. … Frequently no measures are taken until after people’s health has been irreversibly affected.”

When a draft of a speech to be given by the pope was leaked, the Heartland institute took a stance against the Pope regarding Climate Change.  In the draft, the pope wrote “Those who possess more resources and economic or political power seem mostly to be concerned with masking the problems or concealing their symptoms.” Francis also wrote of the impact of climate change in the encyclical “Praise Be.

California’s Prop. 47 Reduces Prison Sentences but Won’t End Mass Incarceration

Deep Green Resistance opposes using for-profit Prisons to hold non-violent offenders unnecessarily. Truthout recently reported on disproportionately long prison terms for the poor and persons of color.

In California shortly after Prop. 47 passed, hundreds of people were released from Bay Area county jails and over 4,700 incarcerated people became eligible for re-sentencing. Courts were quickly inundated with requests for re-sentencing and record purges from scores of people.

Utah Oil town turns against Midwife who asked about infant deaths

Days after a midwife spotted the graves at Natalie’s funeral, she began checking obituaries and records at area cemeteries for stillborn babies and children up to age 1. In 2010, one in every 95 graves dug in Uintah County contained a baby, she said. For 2013, she said, the rate rose to one in every 14.
